So with my last purchase, a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum. I'm Done, no more! I've deleted all of my automatic searches on all auction sites with the exception of my search for a Revelation A107 .22 Mag Manual. I keep buying guns and stuff. I don't need anymore.. right? it's making me nuts. So I AM REALLY DONE THIS TIME... Really...


Wt least until I get rid of some stuff.... I guess... sigh... Well, after I buy these Leupold PRW2 30mm rings on eBAY and then I'm done....

Good strong revolver...you should be able to shoot white-box ammo without problems. Or at least the revolver won't ever break.

I already ordered Hornady Custom 44 Remington Magnum Ammo 300 Grain XTP . I honestly had to look you "white box ammo" because I didn't know what you were referring to, yeah don't know that I would buy that now. LOL thanks

I loaded mine down to about .45 ACP speeds and it shot great. The factory stuff is punishing. You'll develop a flinch quickly. I also cast a 236 gr flat point bullet for it, gas check...shoots fine.

I had one as well they are (No pun) bullet proof robust great gun very lively with factory stuff, funny story ~ I was teaching my wife to shoot center fire as she had always shot air pistol or rimfire (Browning citation) so she had a go of my S&W 357 Mags with factory loads and said they were okay. So I said well have a go at my Super Redhawk 44 Mag with Factory I explained to her patiently the expected recoil and flash and report when she let drive and to lock her elbows and keep a firm grip on the gun had her cock it to single action and line up the target. I stood behind with my palms on her right shoulder just in case now my wife is a right hand shooter but left eye dominant hence she sights with her left eye anyway she lined up the target. At the expected firing of the weapon both her elbows folded and the weapon continued in her hands over her shoulder that I was supporting and for the briefest of moments I had the joy of looking straight down that big dark 44 mag bore of my pistol from about 2 feet even taking in the other chambered rounds in the cylinder funny what you notice under duress. Anyway all was good she recovered herself and I started to get some colour back and decided the toilet would be a good place to go.......

I really loved that pistol and regret getting rid of it and my 2 S&W's 357's.......Oh well got more toys now.......

Great story! I have a few of those as well. Back in the 1990's I owned a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum but ran up on some hard times after a somewhat nasty divorce and ended up selling it and my Weatherby Vanguard Mark V Deluxe 30-06 I still regret selling both to this day.

I dislike the Ruger Redhawk! It is heavy, clunky, unpleasant to shoot with factory grips, and the gun generally lacks refinement. I have had my S&W 8-3/8" M29 since 1981 and it is simply superb. After playing with various loads I quickly settled on old Elmer's load of 245 grain swc (hard cast) over 22 grains of Hercules 2400 with a nice positive crimp. I get 1500 fps with an SD of 30 fps, and cases just drop out of the cylinder. My best group (when my eyes were a bit younger) was 1-3/4" at 100 metres. It gives complete penetration on sheep and deer and drops them instantly, and has won me a some international pistol events over the years. I have been given many Ruger revolvers over the years to tune up for customers, but work on S&W's over the same period has been very minor in comparison. In fairness I must add that the post 2000 S&W's are not as good as the earlier ones.

The fact it's heavy is one of the things I like about the Super Redhawk although the one I got has 9.5" barrel which makes it a bit heavier then I anticipated. I really didn't want anything over 7.5"; but the price was right.

I view them as solid vice clunky. But we have different uses for them from what I read. I have no intention of using it for pistol events or paper in general. I bought it for planned hunting trips into Montana and Alaska where there are no 2nd chances with some of the wildlife. Plus I enjoyed shooting my old Ruger Blackhawk 44's and am looking forward to shooting some steel with the Super Redhawk (still on my 10 days waiting period, stupid California).

Which factory grips are you talking about? My Super Redhawk came with the Hogue Tamer Monogrip and while these are really nice grips and soften the blow to the hands, I still prefer the wooden grips. Something about wood.. doaNo, I love them even though you get the full brunt of the recoil and I will admit the ones on my Super Blackhawk being smooth were hard to grip tight when your hands got moist when it was hot outside and that was uncomfortable. I will more than likely make my own custom grips to fit my hand, I have a beautiful chunk of Walnut in my shop that's been begging to be used for something.

I did look at the S&W offering I could find used and they were outside what I was willing to try and talk my money manager (aka wife) into letting be buy.

The two most uncomfortable pistols I have shot are the Service .38 Special I had to use to qualify on in the late 70's when I was in the service; its grip was much too small for my liking and just recently the new Walther P22 22LR I don't even know how to explain that one. But this is not saying much because I really don't care for pistols too much, I have not shot a lot of different types.
