unknown 1911
I recently came across a 1911 model Colt in .38superAuto. The serial number is 694. On the trigger guard on one side is 20 and on the other there is a triangle. On the slide there is an inspection mark of a crown above a v in a circle. Can anyone tell me anything about this pistol or how old it is? Below the serial number on the reciever in very small letters is "not British
made"

The triangle is actually a VP in the upside down triangle, and was the Colt "Verified Proof" indicating the pistol had been through all inspections. There should be a letter or number above the triangle indicating the final Colt inspector. The 20 on the right side of the trigger guard was the final assembler.
The Crown/V and NOT ENGLISH MAKE you describe indicates that the pistol was sold commercially in England
. The Crown/V should be on both the slide and receiver, and the barrel should have a crown over an intertwined GP in a circle, and an arm holding a scimitar over NP in a circle.
Sounds like an interesting pistol.

Sounds like a 1st year (1929) Colt Super .38. Photos will tell us more about what you have.
