I'm reminded of the situation which occurred a little later in Holland when von Rundstedt was sent back to the front to manage the German
route. When asked why the Allies hadn't attacked them in force yet, he mused: "Because we are retreating faster than the enemy can advance." Rundstedt corrected that problem, at least temporarily.
