Type 38 carbine

Hi guys
I need a little advice.
I have a type 38 carbine, i shoot with it at 200m
I group exelen. Horizontal perfect. Vertical 8-10 inch too the right.
After adjusted front sight a little.
I have now discovered that the rear sight base
Is slightly offset too the right.
And now the question:
If i loosen the screws. Is it posible to ajust it about 1 Degrés or so?
And is it then posible to refit the screws
With the base in a slightly new position?

It is most likely the rear-sight collar is soldered to the barrel. The screw is not the main retention.

I would not mess with it.

I double checked my Type 38 carbine. (Brought back from WW2 by an Uncle).

There is only one rear-sight screw and its purpose is mainly to retain the sight spring in its 'dovetail'.

Also, the fit of the wood Hand-guard is so fine that the sight base cannot be rotated, without interfering with the fit of the hand-guard.

I am sure that the sight-base/collar is Lead soldered in place on the barrel.

p.s. My front and rear sights line up, but, they are slightly 'tilted' to the left. I don't think this is unusual on some military rifles, like the 1903 Springfield. Sights were often put on barrels before assembly. (The barrel and receiver threads were 'timed' and sometimes things ended up slightly left or right of perfection).

Minr is a werry early carbine.
It has two screws one on top lile yours and one on the butt
And yes it is soldered on.

Here is how I have maesured it out:
Take barrel and resiever out of the stock.
Put it in the vice
Take a steel ruler at the underside og the resiever
And line it all up with a “bubble thing”
Front sight fits perfect
Rear sight sligtly too the right
Then check up with a vertical lazer
Exact in the middel of every fixpoint on the riffle
And front sight and bore sight
Everything line up exept rear sight

So I need to heat it up and rotate anout 1-2 degree to the left

Sounds like your rifle was "Made in Japan"!

Yes “ Made in Japan”😀
But still need a little hand fitting.
You know. Japanese sights has too fit japanese eyes 🤔
But I am a europan guy. So I have too straigt them up

Now all parts line up perfect.
In fact. Thank for the advice with Hand-guard space
It clearly showed that the rear sight block need to
Be rotated little too the left.
After the fix the space is equal left and right.
Front sight are ajusted bach too center.
And all fits with bubble gauge and laser
And boresight looks great.

Only thing too be done now is the range test.
Unfortunately it will take some weeks before
I go there next.

My wife have a huge booked calender for me
