Pistol Display Stand Plans?
I am looking for some plans to build a single pistol display stand so that i can photograph some pistols and revolvers for a Museum.
I know that they are available ready-built in the US but not this side of the pond and so I plan to build one, if someone can point me at some on-line plans.

If you have a variety of pistols and revolvers to photograph there is not a one size fits all stand. Also, it depends on what type of photographs you will be taking. If you are going to record the pistols for identification purposes they need to be shot where all the markings show. Most of the display stands are made for "glamour" shots and don't really show the detail of the pistol.
For ID purposes this one was shot absolutely perpendicular to the pistol, and shows all the markings on that side. Not glamorous, but shows all the important detail.

I don't know what to tell you for revolvers, but for semi-autos, I like the flat board that has a verticle piece coming up at the proper angle which acts like a magazine. I don't have a dimensioned plan but one shouldn't be too hard to make up from scratch.

If you shoot them 360 degrees on a stand you will need a continuous background as well as pretty sophisticated lighting. Be sure and show us some of your work.

I realise that. In fact that is all set up. The equipment is currently used to shoot other stuff but supporting some objects, as in this case, can be a problem.

I would recommend looking as some recently published firearms books. In the past 10 years great advances in photographing firearms has taken place, and one in particular that stands out is "Luger: The Multi-National Pistol." They didn't use any stands, but photography is first rate.

However I assume that they didn't use 360s in a book? :-)
I know that you are trying to be helpful but please accept that we do this stuff professionally and therefore do know all this. All I want is a stand.

Please accept my apology for trying to tell a professional how to photograph a pistol. I would never have guessed it from the original question.
