K31 Reloading
Anyone using a 180 grain bullet? If so what powder and charge are you using? I just bought some new brass from Midway.

185grs Lapua Silver Scenar with 39.6grs of VV N140. Good and mild load.

Why such a heavy bullet? The 168g SMK or 174g pulled match are perfect. The 150g Sierra Game King is another fine bullet for the Swiss
rifle.

MJ, don't take this personally, but that's crap.

MJ, there is an easy reason for it. I tested the 170grs Lapua lock Base the 167grs Lapua Silver Scenar, the 155grs Hornady and the 185grs Lapua Silver Scenar. The 185grs gave the best result out of this rifle. In the G96/11 the 170grs Lock Base was the best and had good results with an 120grs and softload in the K31
.

Cool.
I have only shot the 168g Sierra Match King so I have no other data. But it was good shooting to 300 yards on some steel plate.
Here is a 100 yard fur ball.

Cheers.

Good morning, Vince. Thanks for the enquiry.
The k31 and it's mates, the 1911, k11, PE57 and the rare (in the US) zfk55 Swiss
Sniper Rifle are a rarity in another category. A Military series of rifles rifles designed around a specific cartridge, projectile weight and profile for accuracy and performance. The projectile is a 175gr of the VLD type.
The intent of this cartridge/rifle mating was to hit a human in the kill zone at range and they performed as intended. Not many production rifles are capable of doing that. The very great majority of these rifles perform flawlessly.
Are there rifles that outperform it? Of course there are, but none of them are a standard military issue firearm designed around a dedicated production cartridge for that rifle.

We've been using the Berger VLD 175s for a long time now because its a very close match to the original GP11 projectile.
We've been using a Swiss powder, RE17 in the 49.5gr area for shooting out at 500 yards.

MJ1, that's probably the cleanest K31
I've seen. Was it one of the recently released police issues?

Latigo, what is the Berger # for those VLD 175's? I have used up almost all my GP11 and have 100 rounds of pirvi to shoot for brass. All four are shooting very well with the GP, I hope to do as well with my re-loads.

Has anyone developed/worked up a load with lead bullets.
I am a cast bullet freak and have shot cast from almost eveything I own, but never in the K31
.
Any thoughts??
