Whould You Trade?

I have the oppourtunity to trade my (I would say like new) Glock 22 .40 cal with LaserMax for a late 1974 Plainfield M1 serial range 681xx. The M1 is in beautiful condition, shiny bore, strong rifling, very tight, no rattling. Has the blonde colored stock and metal handguard, sling and oiler. It's a straight up trade. I'm tempted. Don't ever shoot the Glock. What do you guys think?

That's what I have been struggling with. If it was a USGI, I would not have even posted this thread. I would own it. If it was a Universal or Auto Ordnance, I would not have even considered it. BUT, since it was a Plainfield, I wasn't sure.

What is your reasoning for considering the trade? Are you planning to collect several different commercial carbines? Is it going to be used as a shooter? Are you going to shoot it more than you do your glock? Is it going to be your 1st carbine or your 15th?

I personally would not make the trade because I do not have a "use" for a Plainfield in my gunsafe. But I am not one to talk. My first carbine was a Universal I purchased while I was a starving college student - I couldn't afford a real USGI at the time. You alone are the only one who can decide if your reasoning is sound.

When you talk value, I believe the monetary value of the Glock with the LaserMax is far more than the retail value of the Plainfield. If you really want it, sell the Glock then buy the carbine for cash. Or at least get some cash out of the deal...

Just my two cents worth.

Reasoning would be that I am now more interested in M1's and rifles in general, than handguns. I have 1 M1 Rock-Ola and was looking to add towards it. I to felt like I was getting the short end of the stick, hence the post.

Your Glock with LaserMax has to be worth $500-600. I would think you could buy or trade and get a CMP from someone.

Huh?? Can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. Anyway, what I meant was I sent an email to "our hard working buddy" and he responded back with the date. I thought you would pick up on that since I quoted the Plainsfield Machine Co. link you posted. Guess not. Cold up there in Michigan, ah?

I didn't understand what you meant by that either Rocky (About contacting Jim directly) - Why wouldn't you have said that?

But, I didn't understand why you are asking everyone about trading even for gun if you already knew it's value was about half the value of your own described gun, so I guess I'm really confused.
Also, what was the major enticement of a Plainfield over all the other commercials if you knew a Plainfield was also one after you talked to Jim? They're all about the same value (low) and all have some dangers from what you read on 'our hard working buddy's' site.
