The grain in the wood, because of age, oiling, and wartime use, should have overgrown the original stamping/markings. This will give an indication of how genuine the Carbine is. Check these pics out, Bomb and IO. Be very suspicious of anything that looks like it was stamped yesterday. Thanks to all who have posted good stuff and asked good questions of late. Cheers, Mike. Far too hot Frank, getting over 30 degrees ! Won't last for long though. Hope this is not political, but the news is, my grandfather, who was on Guadalcanal on the Cats, predicted to me, when I was a youngster, that "THEY" would come back ! And they have been too, stealing our whales and fish. Have been doing so over recent years. However they decided to "withdraw today". Thanks to some financial backing for those on the protesting boats from good friends of theirs up your way. Cheers Mike.

Jim, those are "BIG CATS".
That is my D8H, I sold it about five years ago to a contractor in Mexico. It weighes over 73,000lb. Has a 13' blade and 300HP. It was my favorite of the three I had going. When I shut down my excavating business I sold everything myself online.
I kept some toy's though. A Case 1150E dozer, Cat 930 wheel loader, a JD 690 excavator and a tandam dump truck. I call my property my sand box and those are my sand box toy's.
I still work outside if the job is something I want to do. Otherwise they keep me busy here on my property.
Boy I would love to play with that D11R!!!

The last one I remember being on was a 'Caterpillar 10' and I was probably about 8 or 9 years old. I may have a picture of it somewhere - was pretty small in comparison!

What do you guys think of the markings on these two high-wood RSG stocks? I have my own ideas, but all opinions are welcome. Both show a 'smudge' of blue-green ink in the operating slide channel. - Bob

Bob, the blue/green ink is a Julian date. Done by the Irwins on RSG stocks and on some Inlands. Some kind of dating system that I still don't understand.
Your second S G looks like the stamp bounced. I think both are real, I have two like them waiting for rifles.
Do your stocks have numbers and letters in the sling well?
I never get tired of looking at nice wood.

Hi frank and bob,
Actually the Ink stamps in the Irwin made stocks are not the Julian style dating system, like found on early Inland stocks.
We think the Irwin Ink stamps were shift, work station and or Inspectors markings.
Newscotlander was kind enough to clear this up for me a few years ago.
If you compare the two you'll see Irwin vs Overton Ink stamps are different colors.

I still run across Robert Irwin made stocks to this day that have remarkable repairs done to them.
