WWII German Mauser Oberndorf k98 byf 42 thick font (click here)
A straight no nonsense rifle. Trying to get some cash quickly to fund some other buys I have in the works (don't we all). This auction is a buy it now only with a fair price especially when matching rifles are all over $1,000 now and nice russian captures are pushing and eclipsing at times $500.
The wear is even throughout and definitely a frontline used weapon. No doubt a pickup from the surrendered weapons heap and find a bolt from the bolt heap vet bringback rifle, the bolt being the only number mismatch (but still byf marked). It is completely matching to itself and I see the byf waffenamt on the firing pin.
It's an early b block 42 rifle so everything is numbered, screws, band spring, follower, buttplate, handguard, stock, bands, all the rear site components, etc. All the markings are extremely well struck. The byf 42 marking on the receiver is even the earlier thick font, shortly into 1942 the fonts were struck with thinner looking letter and number dies characteristic of 43 and 44 rifles. An H band is also somewhat rare on a 1942 rifle as they quickly went to the solid upper band in this year.
The wood is extremely sound with no cracks, no sanding or varnishing, all original in every way. Only bumps and bruises show testament to it's field use. Numbered in channel and handguard. I would have taken pictures but the bands are on nice and snug and I don't like taking things apart a second time when they fit that tightly. But trust me, they are nice and well struck. No cracks anywhere on the inside either. The bore has slight frosting but really nice visible lands as you can see and would make a wonderful shooter if you decide to use it as such.
All in all a really nice rifle that you don't have to worry about any part being faked or changed from the war, a straight bolt mismatch bring back.
BUY NOW - $775 U.S. SOLD

Badger

Could you please tell me what the three symbols on the right side of the receiver are?

Thanks
