Early SC - #862! but...
too bad it has been sportered.
Nevertheless, it's not often you see such an early #. If that 10-42 barrel is in good shape it could fetch half the asking price, itself.

It reminds me of a very early Remington M1903 I saw at a small gunshow ... 3,000,800. The stock was almost immaculate with a deep boxed RLB and crisp grasping grooves. Unfortunately, the rest of it would have broken your heart - the stock was crudely chopped off, the trigger guard had been modified and the bolt handle had been reattached to clear the scope (the receiver was drilled and tapped, of course.) I salvaged (from the guy who bought it) the 10-41 Remington barrel, though.
At least whomever sporterized this rifle (the SC) used a little more couth than the guy who did the LN Remington!!
