Probably a dumb question but.....
G'day chaps,
I'm on here trying to find some information (and hopefully some links) to a couple of items that I'm after.
I have a No 4 mk 1 enfield that I'm quite happy with, I use this gun for hunting here in Western Australia
and I currently use a "no gunsmith" scope mount with an old weaver scope on it. However.... It shifts and loses zero if it gets dinked when you're moving around in the bush which is bloody frustrating. With that in mind, I've decided to put a 32 style scope mount on there and get it fitted by a gunsmith (so its done properly) but there are so many different styles and types out there I'm simply swamped with information!
Could someone please point me at a good quality scope mount (and pads) that isn't going to cost me a kidney? Or even offer to sell me one?
Cheers in advance

that is well above what the real deals are supposed to do but sometimes it all gels and you end up with a freaky one even for a repro.
Or try Roy Alexander & Sons in Perth also good on 303's as well I tried those no smith things bloody useless but if you go to a gunny get them to check out the bedding as well but they should have a good knowledge of the 303 and bedding them.
These are old rifles with a checkered past and were not really pampered like the plastic fantastics we have now days.

Thanks for the reply cinders, do you happen to know if they used a repro scope and mount or an original one? I can justify the prices that are charged for an original 32 and I've been warned away from the repros....
Yeah, Roy Alexander is really good, I used them to sort out a head space problem that I was having. Done and dusted in ten minutes for the princely sum of $35. (:
Exactly! I love the SMLE because it is over engineered to a ridiculous extent and designed to be used, not cosseted. (Also it makes a really good *BANG* and impresses small children and people from Victoria....)

Just get yourself a steel mount from Brian at BDL
that has a solid three point fix across the backsight axis bed and clamped solid to the bridge charger guide. Picatinny dovetail to take picatinny mounts and you're away. If this mount moves with your rifle then so will a No32 set-up

The above rifle belongs to Newbiedan.
Bill Beaton fitted the rifle with a genuine No32 Mk1. Fitted with repo mounts and a repo bracket. Bill has put a lot of work into ensuring that the mounts and bracket are true to the action.
Scope was from my collection and had been refurbished by Peter Laidler
.
It is the quality of both Bill and Peters work that makes Dans rifle such a great package.
PM me if you are interested in a genuine scope. I can possibly help you with one, but they are not cheap.

Cylon: Sounds to me like Peter L. has the practical solution for a working gun but if you do go the No. 4T style pads/ bracket route, you don't necessarily have to use a No. 32 scope (or replica) with them. I have a replica No.4T that I initially outfitted with a Weaver K3. There's just room for it with the turrets in front of the front ring and it looks pretty good plus weighs a mere fraction of the hefty originals. Also much, much easier to zero. With this approach you can have your rifle set up for a No. 32, but use it immediately with a cheap scope while searching for a reasonable No. 32.

He could also talk to Warren on here about one of his repro scopes and mounts. I've had mine on my rifle for a year now, fired about 500 full power rounds through it, hunted in the rain and snow, carried it through thick brush on horseback and many other fun abuses and I have not touched the scope since initial zeroing. Bonus is that it actually works quite well in low light, a great elk hunting set up here in the frozen north

I have a S&K mount on a No4 and to be honest it hasn't moved a measurable amount over the two years I have used it. I would guess I haven't adjusted it 2 clicks ever and that one in particular was recommended by the local shop owner.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Exactly what I was thinking of doing to start off with, break the pain up a bit, so to speak....

Sorry chap, but who is BDL?
-
-
BDL
is Brian Dick
at BDL Ltd in South Carolina who advertises on this site/forum. Once you have turned your rifle into a No4T look-a-like, then that's all it ever is and valued (or de-valued - according to your point of view.....) accordingly. If you want a good, serviceable, useable rifle with a telescope, go with the steel one-piece 3 fix mount
