    Grenade Launching SHT LE I***

    Hi all,
I acquired this rifle today at a gun show . It's an Enfield SHT LE I*** made in 1906 and coverted at some point to a grenade launching rifle. Was this modification done during the WWI or after? The rough exterior belies a bore that's in really nice shape. I'm not up on the LE modifications so any so any info on this old war horse would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Len

What a nice piece. It sure has been a long way, and it's been marked by everyone that saw it.
    Regards, Jim

Friend of mine has the same rifle, # G1. Mine is also the same, # G2. We seem to lean toward the idea that the "G" in the serial number stands for Grenade.

Mine is G538. Notice how much they're wrapped.

    Enfield 1904

There are three serial numbers on this rifle, two have been lined-out. The new serial is G839 and the bolt is G837. There are marks on the rear handguard from the wire wrap. At some point in time the wire wrap was removed, bore is excellent, and volley sights are complete.

Here is G231 converted from a 1909 LSA Mk I* upgraded to Mk I***. Bolt is mismatched by a by ten (G221) if anyone has my bolt, or it might just be a error make while remarking....
