Carried on Okinawa
This 1911 AI was carried by a captian attached to the XXIV Corp.US 10th Army Okinawa. I was lucky enough to be at my friends gun store when this old vet came to get his money for the amount I paid a few days previous. The only time he used the Colt was to kill a snake.Attachment 32974Attachment 32973Attachment 32972Attachment 32971Attachment 32970Attachment 32969Attachment 32968Attachment 32967

I hope you got a signed statement of the history of this pistol and of the gentleman's service. If not the pistol is just another M1911A1!

I aked him for information but did not have him sign it . (I put the information + his name down after I talked to him). If I shed it some time in the future, that information will go with it and without his signature (They don't need to take the information). I could be a liar and have a signature posted with it but that's not me. I didn't have the nerve to go to his house a day later and ask him to sign a piece of paper.

I would ask the gentleman with help in documenting the history of the weapon to preserve its legacy along with that of the man who carried it why not?
Heck he might have a photo of himself in uniform with the weapon. Adding value to the weapon is nice but my bet is that is not your primary focus. History not preserved is history lost.
Good Luck Lucky Fellow

Wow, that's neat. I have one that's only about 500 numbers lower than that. No story attached to it, however.

Anyone who's read Eugene Sledge's book or watched The Pacific on HBO probably knows just how nasty the combat was on Okinawa, from the torrential rains and mud to the rotting corpses littered everyhere. I'm surprised anything used in that battle made it back without turning into a single slab of rust.
