FWIW - in US Service, M1917 bolts were not serialized - are you sure it is not a P14 bolt?

    bolt for bolt

On knowledge about the 1917 I am green as grass.. How can I tell if it is a 1914 bolt and are they interchangable?

Not interchangeable. To check quickly, take a .30-06 casing and see if it fits snug on the bolt face. If there is noticeable slop like a larger case head would fit, it's a P14 bolt.

Also, a P14 bolt will not have a flaming bomb stamp on the handle, an M1917 bolt will.

lend lease 17,s had a serial numbered bolt, they serial number the bolt be it a R marked bolt in a Winchester rifle. if it gaged will, they used it, serial numbered it, and put it in service.

It's possible, but unlikely (statistically) that his bolt is lend-lease IMHO.

No, he's saying that it is POSSIBLE, but only if the bolt is actually an M1917 bolt and not a P14 bolt.

Can you post a picture of it, if you can't ID it yourself?
