Any idea what the stock finish was on the Ljungman Ag m/42 rifle?

I've seen as new rifles and they appeared to be an oil finish. I'm not sure it will actually matter what oil.

I oil all of my Swedishicon rifle stocks with Waxoyl. They are blonde and look like new. Doing it for 40 years. It cannot damage. gary

I had one that I deemed to be in new condition. The finish on the stock was not really smooth, but was what might be considered , "frosted". Looked like something that was fairly hard and had dried not that smoothly. Worn stocks do have a smoother appearance.
