I am going to start out this post with an apology to all as I horned in on coalgeo's SRS post recently to request info in my 1928 rather than start a fresh post.

With that said, I had posted that I picked up a sporter recenty that had a 1928 receiver & a Lyman 48C receiver sight. SN is 1,296,857

I originally asked if the rifle was an NRA sporter was told by Rick from the "O" under the sn it was a Rock Island receiver but not on the sporter list.

Price was right so I bought it. I am confused though reading the SN list in Cambell's & Brophy's books, it places this rifle as a 1928 build and lists the rifles built in that year as sporters, NM, or specials.

The barrel is polished & has remnants of both the rear ladder sight lock pin grooves but is shot out hardly any rifling left in the muzzle. Bolt is also polished with no markings, locking lugs are damaged & it is loose in the receiver so it has seen some abuse.

Anyone with any info in the rifle would be appreciated. I would love to restore it back to at least close to its original configuration.Would love to track the history.

Will post some photos when I get it back from my gunsmith who is removing the 60's vintage ramp sight someone installed.

Thanks in advance
