What is the effect of changing an SMLE foresight blade.

I spent the day at the ranges yesterday and determined that my 1941 Lithgow is shooting probably about a foot low at 200 yards. This is with a handload of 41 grains of N140 behind a 174 grain SMK. Unfortunately I can't chrono my loads but I believe that this is close to the standard .303 velocity of 2440 fps.

In the past I changed the blade thinking that I needed to to account for a change in butt length (I may have been wrong on that!). I have a set of military blades and I could do with some advice on which blade I might swap to. The current blade is a '0'.

Each change in standard SMLE foresight blades changes point-of-impact by 2.77" at 100 yards

Suggest try a "- 030" blade

So where did it print with Milsurp ammo?
Maybe you would be wise to check, your reloads may be punching faster/flatter, or maybe not as good as you hope.

Thank you both for your advice. Muffet I hadn't really thought of that; I suppose i'd got into a particular frame of mind to shoot a handload.

41 grains of N140 and a 174 grain bullet is exactly what I, and many others, use.

RobD, yes, but not every rifle is the same.
I'd goes as far as to compare them with women, each one is different, (strange cattle) but once you get to know them and give them what they want, life suddenly becomes easier.

Are you trying to duplicate the Mk7 ballistics, or just trying to zero for where your reloads are actually hitting?

Mine shoots 1 1/2 feet high with a -.45 I'm trying to locate a set of blades myself.

Ideally I'd like to replicate the Mk7 ballistics such that I can set the sights for a particular distance and be about right. If I think about there's no particular reason for that other than that seems the right thing to do for a Milsurp!
