New bolt for FAL (metric)

Hi guys I have some pitting in my bolt heard from gas cutting using (I'm pretty certain) cheap indian ammo> I was wondering about replacing bolt parts but I heard that the FAL headspaces on each individual bolt so I can't do this. Is this correct?

you get the replacement bolt and install it. Then use your headspace gage to check headspace. If it does not pass then you replace the locking shoulder to fit the bolt. A job for a smith........gary

From my very limited experience of the captured FN's - non UK/Canada/Aust L1A1's, I seem to recall that the bolts/breech blocks were fully interchangeable as was the CHS measurements of 1.6325" GO and 1.643" No-Go.

But I'll let you into a little secret. If the CHS is slightly tight on the 1.6325 you can safely and carefully stone the rear locking bent of the breech block to ease it into lock. Use a 3corner stone and keep it square. You won't break through any hardened surfaces because the whole breech block has the same metallurgical treatment.

One other thing to be mindful of, the early Belgian manufactured "FAL Canada" and the later Indian rifles have a single angle to the camming surface of the bolt and bolt carrier.

This is not compatible with the later C1/L1 and G1 and later FALs with the double angle camming surface.
