??? Small caliber rifles for British Army's experiences
Gentlemen!
What rifles were considered apart Colt AR-15 in the early 60th? Was it Armalite AR-18 and Stoner63? Why Army preferred Colt rifle? What are the disadvantages of other rifles determined the choice of AR-15?
Regards, Andrey

There were several rifles considered, besides th AR 15 in the SCHV (small caliber, high velocity) trials. Winchester made one in .224 loosly based on M1 Carbine and M1 Garand, Springfield Armory had one that was similar to a scaled down M14
, and several others. Tonight I will dig out my "The Black RIfle" book and give you more info. IIRC, Armalite made the AR18 later, but it was sabotaged mb Army testers.
