"The barking dog is wagging his tail" with your request. SRS DOES list a rifle with this serial number as a DCM Sales rifle, but NOT as a National Match. It would be curious to see what the sales receipt says. I wonder if this was an NM that sort of "slipped" by without being recorded as such. It was sold in September, 1927.

Thanks for the reply. When I bought the rifle it was from an old timer that CLAIMED he used the rifle at Camp Perry matches. I asked him if he had his record book from the matches. He said he thought he did and would look for it but never turned up. I bought the rifle after a careful inspection looking for all the items that a NM 03 should have. I found everything to b correct so i bought the rifle not the story.
I had read and heard that competitors at the matches were allowed to by the NM 03's that they used but do not know through which agency the purchase was made if this was correct.

My buddy was PFC (Calif National Guard) at Perry 1930's. It took him 2 years to save enough money to buy a NM at Perry. At the conclusion of the Matches competitors could buy used NM rifles at a huge discount. I think (?) they were sold as Standard rifles instead of NM's. What happened was interesting: his Top Sgt walked him over to the Army Tent and told the NCO his young soldier had saved for 2 years and deserved a good rifle. The NCO picked through rows of rifles and found one that had been used in ONE match. He kept the rifle all of his life and it was sold by his widow and NOT offered to me. I wanted it, by the way.

So I guess the story that the previous owner told me that he bought it after the Camp Perry Matches has a ring of truth. Thanks for the above reply indicating that they were sold as I was told and listed as standard rifles. Clears up a lot of speculation on my part.
