I believe it's a reproduction, Ray

I think it's a repro also. Too many things don't look right. Cell phone pics don't help...we could use bigger.

Anything specific? Buckles, stamps?

The stamp looks too big and not old enough, the holes look too big and just not right, the leather end at the frog looks too wide and not contoured right, the rivets don't look right...I'd love to have it in my hands though to examine closer. I just don't think so. Doesn't mean it's not useable though. I have a copy on my shooter so I could tie up in it if needed.

To add to Jim's reasons, If the buckles are steel as they appear to be, I don't believe steel hooks/ends were being used in 1942, they still should be brass. The earliest I've see steel ones is in 1944. Also the rivet heads are not ground flat/flush as originals are. Do the smell test. Newer leather will still retain some what of a leather smell. A 1944 sling will have either no smell or a musty smell, although sometimes leather dressing that has been applied recently may hide the newer smell. Ray

Sadly, the Indians have mastered the fake market on these, and a few others, and even let the studs rot and frost over like that in the their monsoons outside, so I'm afraid doubt would be my key word too I'm afraid!!

At least it's serviceable with what appears to be good quality leather and stitching. My repo is a piece O crap, paper thin "pleather", thin plated hooks, a finish which is cracking off,,, I think it's paint. Anyway, they didn't say it was for display only when I bought it...
