[Snafu]

These American soldiers are resting along the road. However, some remain on their guard and were lying on the ground to prevent possible German fire.
This photo was taken July 17, 1944 on Hill 122 overlooking St. Lo, north of the city, a major goal for the 29th US ID.

Hill 122 is located near the road D191 St. Lo-Villiers-Fossard. Chap on the left with Bino's and looking at the map planning an advance to see what is around the corner scary as could be mines or an MG 42 waiting round the corner who knows they may have just come through a small village and could still be in contact with the enemy but this looks like a quick break and regroup who knows they may be waiting for the "Jabos" to clear a section of heavy resistance. Most of them are looking up the road suggestion there is no good going on around the corner. Great pic.
