M1A1 highwood stock
Guys,
I've found once more another nice M1 Carbine item here - this time a M1A1
stock, my first highwood! The stock is marked with a circled P on the rear and a IO on the inside (aswell as the single rivet handguard). The folding part of the rear is missing, but the cap plate etc. is still on the stock.
Can you help me with an estimate of the value of such an item, with a missing part? Or do I need to post pictures of that one first?
Thanks,
Georg

Georg, pictures are pretty much a must. No one here would want to steer you in the wrong direction price wise so good detailed photos are really cool. With the smaller parts use the macro setting on your camera and if available use a tripod. Your background should be something like an Army blanket. Can't wait to see her

M1A1 stock
I do not know if this would help or not, but I have had the "new" condition M1A1
low wood stock for many years. I was offered $500 for it about four years ago. I really doubt you would find the metal buttstock without buying a complete stock. You hi wood stock could be restored and would look nice on the correct period carbine. I would think somewhere
between $800 to $1000 for your stock. There are a lot of fake parts around too but original parts could be found.Attachment 53769Attachment 53770Attachment 53771Attachment 53772

Georg, I have to say it looks more like a relic then anything else. But it still has some value and while RCS has about $800 for it I think that is quite a bit too high as it not only needs the full butt stock but also needs other parts too. IF one could find all the parts needed I think it will run you about $1200 or more for them and a good cleaning, steaming and light sanding if needed on the wood. Once that is done you can get upwards of $1800 for the stock but as is I would say closer to $400 to $500.

Hey Bruce, thanks for your reply! The pictures are really bad, they were made with my mobile. I guess when I take better pictures with my Eos 60D it will not only look much better, but you'd believe it's a different stock. These are just to bad, but were to give an idea on it.
Nevertheless, I'll give it a try then to sell. Hope that somebody will be found for it. And of course the better pictures are to be made first!

Bruce is probably right and a high wood forearm now days on the loose is rare. but I think you may have a hard time finding the wire and butt plate for it. Surplus forearms and pistol grips that had been made were sold on the market for years but I have never seen just an original wire and butt plate on the loose, just repro ones. Of course this is only my experience and you may be lucky. But I keep abreast of M1A1
stuff as I have three M1A1 carbines. You might be better off just selling it as it is as I'm sure some one out there would like to have a high wood stock for their early carbine that has had the stock altered to low wood. Ray
