Me and my grandpa were in Gander Mountain the other day and they had some swiss k31s on sale in their red tag firearms event for $299 I think. Is this a good deal and how hard is it to find ammunition for it?

If you can't find Swiss GP11, Prvi Partisan make very good 7.5mm Swiss.

I'd say that was good price.

At today's prices, that is an excellent deal. I would not hesitate if I wanted one. Ammo is inexpensive, surplus is available and is considered to be match grade. $35-$40 for a box of 60. They have been asking over $400 at the shows for six months now. Supply has not yet dried up but import quantities are getting smaller and when they are in sell out in days.

Look it over real well. A lot of these were imported and sold as "cracked stocks" which no one ever had a good answer as to what that meant. Probably something minor but good to be aware of. These are beautiful rifles to shoot. They also have a tendency to multiply in your collection.

These are great rifles. If you care about resale, walnut stocks seem to be more desirable than birch.

Or they bring there whole family to move in.


To the OP, these rifles are definitely a blast and I can't think of many others which have as much bang for buck value (a couple that does come to mind is the Portuguese M1904/39 and the Swedish M96 and M38 rifles).

At that price, doesn't matter what type stock it's in these days. Walnut is more desirable because its from WWII or earlier. 1943 to be specific. It also has a tendency to have survived the punishment many Swiss stocks got in better condition, fewer dents and dings.

I only have one myself but it's blasted family members moved in much like Eaglelord's house.

The ones at gander mountain are birch. And we will probably end up getting one. They also come with a leather sling.

Oh, another quick thing to mention try to get the muzzle caps and slings in the deal as well, its not critical just nice to have.
