1912 BSA with Australian heavy barrel.
Almost forgot to show this one off. Started life as a 1912 BSA, ended up in Australian
service at some point and fitted with a heavy barrel. Looks like an Indian stock, early No1 nosecap. Can barely make out 'CMF' and '1MD'. District number on buttstock matches crossed out district number on receiver. Barrel date is 12/37. 'H' stamp on barrel and wrist. It does have the dreaded 'JJCO' stamp, but I'm not so sure this is a throw together. Check her out!

There was a time in Australia
that a fair few of early 303's with long service lineage had H barrels fitted in 1937 I think either Muffett or Bruce in Oz have the answer to that one as my 1916 Lithgow also had the H barrel fitted in the 1937.
Was the F P locking screw missing when you purchased I see it has had a repair to the bottom wood in what I gather is the accepted practice by armourers I wonder why they did not just fit a new fore wood!

Yes, screw was gone when I got it. Have one on the way. I agree, why a new forewood wasn't fitted?

Looking at those pictures does the fore top wood have the springs in it in 3 places as per the Sweets method?

That's the barrel every SMLE should have had IMHO.

About 10,000 off from my 1912 BSA which also went to Australia

One thing I have just noticed is it has the rear tie plate with cross pin as the No.4 has was this not an Indian thing, could it be a No.4 lower fore wood or is the middle band in another position as the cut out for the charger bridge on this one looks very tight the bridge cut out slot not being a factor on the No.4 just a thought. Or did India produce the lower woods with the cross tie.
