U.S. Army or Marine Sniper Rifle Specs
I will be real general in this question. . . .
Can anyone tell me the standard Army or Corp sniper rifle these days or is there such a thing as "standard" anymore?
A friend asked and I suspect he would like to build an approximation for target shooting and his own amusement. I told him I thought the Remington 700 was the basis, but I think he had in mind trigger, barrel and bolt perhaps along with any specific mods done to suit individual requirements.
Thanks for any and all responses to this. He is a longtime bolt gun guy, but I told him you would know if any place on the internet would.

Mack,
The Army's using the M24 Sniper Weapon System, which is based on the Remington 700. Here's a link to info:

Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.

air-groundmen, and not the abode of uniformed
civilians in the prime of life protected by
detachments of soldiers." Winston Churchill.

US Marine Sniper....co-worker of mine..
My friend returned from Iraq two years ago, where he served as a sniper in the USMC...He used the Remington-based M40A3 with a Schmidt & Bender scope w/mildot reticle..

I have one of the M40A1 copies by Mike Lau of Texas Brigade Armory that is very accurate. Take a look at their website for some ideas.
