Quality hmc in Johnson 7.5 help!
Ok I was giving this rifle from my dad and he thought it was just a 30cal, but when I trying shooting it it won't feed, took it to gun smith and it now tells me it's a Johnson barrell. So would I change out barrels or not ? The only thing I don't like when I took it apart to see what parts were in it there lots like they had to grind some metal. sorry 5.7

You mean 5.7, right? If it works, the ammo is available but I'd make my own. If you load your own for it, you should have no problem and some even sing it's praises. If you want factory ammo, change it to .30 cal and buy factory...

Sounds like either a reloader's dream, which will be WAY cheaper, or a rebarrel job. Maybe it would be cheaper and better to sell this one and buy a normal carbine...

I have a underwood and reload anyway, but finding the brass or making brass doesn't sound like fun!! that's why I was thinking of changing the barrel. and ya the aftermarket wood is ok but nothing like gi !!! there is alot to think on!!

I have fired the 5,7 Johnson and have even installed a 5,7mm barrel years ago. Easy to load if you are set-up. The 5,7 Johnson fires a 40 gr bullet
at 3000 fps if you have a use for this cartridge. There are other wildcats like the 22 Carbine or some use a cut back and necked down 223 case.
Once saw a 30 Kurz conversion using a short 308 case with longer barrel too which I did not care for !

Isn't the 5.7 Johnson just a necked down 30 Carbine case? I think you just need to neck it down and trim. I could be wrong. I think the 5.7 would be a nifty addition. I'd keep it, as they are very rare.

That's right. Just run it through a die and go...they're both 1.29 in length. Not really hard. Dies are available.

The 5.7 is not considered to be a worth while use of a carbine today. There are better rounds like the .223 or the .222 even. The AR 15 is better suited as it can use heavier and lighter bullets where as the 5.7 is limited by case size and by only being able to use the lighter bullets. That is one of the reasons the military rejected it.
