Find the Quail
There are 3 Bobwhite quail in this photo, 2 roosters and a hen. Can you spot them all? They's only 20 feet away, see 'em yet?

Well I'll be a blue eyed pole cat, there IS another below the one in the center! Hadn't noticed it until I read your post. Those are hens, they have tan throat and brow stripes. The roosters have white stripes bordered in black.....hint hint.
There may be more than 4 in the photo. I heard them before I saw them, they make a sort of high pitched trilling sound when alarmed. I was only 20 or so feet away and by the time I got my camera out some had already disappeared. Think there was 8 or 9 altogether. Starting to worry about this covey, it seem to be getting smaller every year. The roosters outnumber the hens so I'll probably cull a few before the season ends, hopefully that will reduce the competition and the numbers will increase this spring. Not many truly wild quail left.

Went on my first quail hunt in probably 25 years last December. Pen raised, though. Wild coveys seem to have disappeared altogether in these parts. Did have the fun of about stepping on one covey! Just like the old days. Yow!
