NZ proof question
Gentlemen, I figured you guy's could answer this rather easily, On US rifles that were lend leased to New Zealand
specifically M1903's, the stock is often proof with a large NZ above a number that does not correspond with the rifle s/n, is this a unit, armory or inventory control number? what does the number reference?
thanks
Dave

Yep NZ and rack number, this was added to all NZ military firearms until 1960, the first few batches of Lithgow
L1A1's and Sterling L2A3's were the final issue firearms to be so marked before this was discontinued.
