I don't suppose that you'd care to be reminded that the "Old House" had a roof that was leaking like a sieve, was in the process of being over-run by rats and cockroaches, and was in a neighborhood with crack-dealers on every corner and drive-bys every night?
Locks on the doors that work may be a PITA, but it's better than a bunch of viral SPAM! "User-Friendly" is a 2-way street! All the "neat stuff" you lament was accomplished by making your computer and everyone using the site terribly vulnerable to malware attack via the heavy use of "cookies". That spam wasn't just spam....a lot of it had payloads or auto-executing links to payloads!

[Why is it when I open a topic to read it and then go back to the list again you can't tell what you've read and what you have'nt? On CSP
anything I clicked on and read would turn a different color. Here, once in awhile, the type goes from bold to small, but not often.
Thats my gripe too bro.

Well, I'm just getting used to the new digs, and I agree it's not anywhere as intuitive a format. I like analog clocks too. Go figure...

Stop your whining, and be grateful they just didn't shut the old place down and leave it at that. They actually went to the trouble of finding a new home and all I hear is whining. If you don't care for it start your own site.

This was already asked and answered, the host is exploring a way to set font size in User CP preferences.
Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.

air-groundmen, and not the abode of uniformed
civilians in the prime of life protected by
detachments of soldiers." Winston Churchill.

With respect, I am no fan of change. I liked the old CSP
format. But I loved the CSP community more. I regret the end of the old CSP with it's format, etc. But I am extremely thankful that the CSP I loved has not ended. The folks here at MILSURP.COM have graciously provided the means by which CSP may continue. Let's do our best to be as supportive and helpful as possible. We will have to adapt ourselves to this site. That is not avoidable. But lets not allow our frustration, etc. to sour what is a remarkable and gracious response to what would otherwise have been the complete end of CSP. Sincerely. BruceV

May I suggest a fix for you? I browse the WWW in Firefox a web browser by the Mozilla Open Source group, available HERE. Firefox has this wonderful feature that helps tired eyes. If you look under the Tools/Options menu and on the Content tab, there is a section called Fonts & Colors and a button called Advanced. If you click on that button, you are given the option to set a minimum font size. I've got mine set for 17, and the other fonts set higher, on this widescreen monitor. It's much easier on the eye and it stays that way on everything but the most stubborn, nasty sites. This site is very easy on the eyes, for instance.
Yes, you have to learn a new browser, but it is easy, and it is free, and you can import your other browser's bookmarks easily. And, oh yes, you can size up and down while in a page by hitting CONTROL-+ or CONTROL--.

Why can't I "set something" so that when I read topics that others post in extra small miniture text I don't have to get an inch away from my screen to read it?
Yes, we're working on trying deal with the default font size for old folks with bi-focals like me (61). It's down the priority list right now, because it's so easy to hit CTRL +/- keys to adjust any web site for whatever you're comfortable with, we didn't think it would be a crisis of faith to wait a bit longer.
I assume everyone knows they can just use that key combo when they login and the font size display stays that way for the duration of the login?
As far as the old software goes, if Gloria gets here (spoke to her last night) and she wants to move back to the old software on a different server, we'll help her to accomplish that. Remember, we only agreed to be a place holder to save her dying site before the Unix box completely collapsed. I told her again, the CSP community is welcome to stay for free here as long as they want, or until she decides if there's someplace else she'd like to take it. We're an interim host for CSP, NOT the owners of it... the ownership and legacy belongs to Dick and Gloria to decide.
In the interim ~Angel~ and I just paid out $400 U.S., to help guarantee and preserve Dick and Gloria's old data articles and post legacy. We hired a systems guru who's one of the best in the business in regards to Unix, to work all weekend to organize the old server and back it up in a focused and structured manner, so we can get all of the legacy data, articles and pics off of it.
After looking at it, he said he was surprised it was still running and he hadn't seen anything that convoluted in 20 years. He commented "I can certainly do this, it's going to take some time though. That server is a mess and there's stuff all over the place. I would safely say that it's a very large job to go through the whole box and get everything pulled together. There does seem to be a lot of data and the way its laid out just makes it hard to find everything."
We're doing the best we can with limited resources while holding down a full time job to pay the bills ....
BTW, thank you very much to everyone who has voluntarily helped out by becoming Contributing Members. Very gracious of you folks and we sincerely appreciate it.
Thanks for the feedback....

Ok, here's a few tips that might help everyone understand how this software operates. It's identical to Gunboards, Gunnutz and most other modern bulletin boards, so learn it here and you'll find that it's a skill that stands you in good stead on other forums.
All titles of threads that are "stickied" (they always stay at top of forum) always appear in bold.
For the rest of the threads, any titles of threads where you have NOT read the thread yet, appear in bold.
Once a thread is read (opened), then the bold aspect of the title diasppears and the the title looks normal without an bold font.
If you want to quickly see just the NEW threads posted today only, look up in the very top right hand corner of the screen under the LOGIN box and see the drop down box called Quick Links. There's some very powerful (and quick) items there to help users get around.
One of those options is Today's Posts, which will show you ONLY posts made on this particular day. Look over to the left of Quick Links and you'll see New Posts, which is a little different. It's all posts that are NEW since the last time you logged on.
If you decide you want to mark all of the posts in all of the forums as READ, so that when you come back the next time you can check just for the new stuff, select Mark Forums Read under Quick Links. When you do that, ALL of your UNREAD (bold) threads will turn normal, except of course the "stickied" ones.
Here's a trick for those who prefer reading something like the old Jouster
style of thread presentation. Look up to the right of any post which happens to be the FIRST one in any thread and see the the button called Display Modes ...
Click on it and test out the different looks to see if there's one you're more comfortable with than the default Linear Mode mode.
There's one that's very close to Jouster's style ...
BTW, have you guys discovered that On-line Live Chat system.
Look up on the top bar beside the Amazon Store and click on it. It doesn't get used much, but I know some of the other forums hold weekly pre-arranged chat sessions where they invite guest speakers to go on-line to answer questions etc.
Regards,
Badger
