Suggested threading for Flash Hider
Hello all
New here I hope I have right place. I am doing some mods to my M1
and am going with a M4 type Bird cage Flash Suppressor. I know "why would you do that to a vintage gun". Well this one is already non standard pieced together and the stock was to far gone to save. So I am going for a M4 look and I have a Question for you what threading do I want for the M1 carbine barrel 1/2"-28 TPI RH Threads or 5/8"-24 TPI RH Threads? And yes I will get .30cal not 22.
Thanks for the help.

Go with a 1/2x36 thread which is what the 9mm AR15's used, and use the 9mm AR Flash Hider. It is the Birdcage type, and the hole is already big enough for .30 cal.

Either will do as long as you clear the .30 cal muzzle. The die is available from Brownells among several suppliers. That is if the barrel is big enough.

For a job like this, the barrel needs to be threaded on a lathe. I've had to fix far too many screwed up barrel thread jobs to recommend it be done any other way.

I agree, if one's available for sure...I certainly don't mean for him to just try to twist it on there...straight would be hard. But I've done lots of them, quite successfully. We aren't all rubes.
