Australian Market Question - Rebarrelling
G'Day Fellow Enfielditis Patients,
Please excuse this question being directed to the locals, I don't mean any disrespect to our Northern Hemisphere cousins, just considering economics.
I'm considering barrelling a couple of my collection. I live in Brisneyland - yes, finish laughing please so we can go on... Finished? Thank you.
I'd welcome some opinions, based on your personal experience of service, price and quality of workmanship of gunsmiths you'd recommend for rebarrelling a range of Service Rifle models.
Disclaimer: I'm a little old fashioned in my views of business. I am pretty keen to have the smith turn and fit a barrel, not simply buy a foreign imported barrel and screw it in to the action. I do believe in maintaining skills and the economy by keeping trade as local as possible. And, yes, I am a capitalist by nature, but believe there's always a spectrum of what's reasonable. So, if the local wants 40% more to do the work than an import, then you can predict the choice.
Thank you for you considerations and sharing you experience, in advance.

One of the Friends and Sponsors of this site would be well worth contacting. Did some work on a No 4 for me recently which I'm very pleased with.
What's wrong with Brisneyland? Luxury that is, compared to the provinces....

Tom is a moderator on this forum. He is the only local that I know that can rebarrel your rifle and sort out your bedding using his amazing woodworking skills.
For a Syneysider he is not a bad bloke.

What does the "range of service rifles" contemplated consist of?
"Capitalism" is a marxist term for "free enterprise" by the way.
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.

Surpmil,
Probably a No 1 MK III*, No 4, M1903 and still iffy about P14/M1917... Extent is entirely economically dependent...
And yes, your're right about free trade. I'll not be political, but the 'locals' may aprpeciate that not everyone in our society believes that trade is how we make our living... Enough said before the worms multiply!

Isl Accuracy
On 09/05/2012 I received my replica M-40 from Isl Accuracy the subsequent dealings left a very bad taste in my mouth and I will never go back there nor recommend them please see the pics;
Some of the issues found; poor bedding job, cracked stock, pillars not going all the way through to the action, compound stuck to action, bolt lugs were not lapped, chipped land, bad chatter marks on the 11 degree crown, scuffed stock from sling clamp I paid $3000 up front waited 6 months after many e mails and phone calls with where is it the rifle turned up in this condition the pics were taken 15 minutes after unpacking it so my gunsmith could inspect it (I always have this done even with new rifles). When I said I was sending it back for a full refund I was told by Dave Watson the owner of Isl Accuracy that would not happen as I would have to pay the full postage from and to Tasmania at a cost of $300 so did my dollars and sent it back never again to deal with again. I do not care if Dave reads this as he knows what went down and why would I wait another 6 months for perhaps a same condition rifle to turn up infact the stock was stained and my gunny was not sure of the type of wood used to make it. (pics show part of the story)
I think another member had a bad experience from the same company with the fitting of pads for a replica T but will let them explain what went down as they know the full story all I know is the action had to be scrapped after they were fitted
...."BUYER BEWARE"..............
