Bolt Pouch and Cleaning Rod (Browning MG?)

These came with some M1903 parts I bought the pouch says "BOLT" and "US" on it and the handle of the cleaning rod had a diamond with something I cant make out in the center.

Looking around the web, its really not clear what the pouch goes to some places say M1917/M1919, or M1903, M1 and Browning Machine Gun.

I'm pretty sure the cleaning rod is for the Browning MG but the marking is different from the ones I've seen on the web.

Agreed, cleaning rod is for BMG.
But the pouch is probably generic. It may have been introduced for the 1903, but as it is not shaped for a particular bolt, it could be used for any one that fits.

In other words, it would be just as usable for the M1917 - or even P14 (OK, I can see it's marked US). There would have been no reason to alter the design. And since both rifles were used during an extended period, you could only say it was for the 1903 if it was marked with a pre-WW1 date.

I believe the pouch is a M2 case for the extra bolt (1919 or 1917A1 mg) C59656. Seldom seen, more of WW2 or Korean War item

I agree, we still had them on issue when I joined although never had the spare bolts to carry in them...

That would make sense since the cleaning rods were with it. I tried sticking a 1903 bolt in it and it really doesn't fit well, you can get it in there but you can tell it's not make for it. Now I just have to figure out what to do with this stuff. My I don't know pile is getting big.

Yeah it doesn't fit well at all, I don't think it would have been used for 1903. Besides, why would you need a spare bolt for a M1903?

A lot of surplus cleaning rod cases around for all the US weapons (carbine, mg and rifle)

the WW2 cases will generally have a drawing number starting with a DAttachment 90155Attachment 90156Attachment 90157

Just have to find the correct case

I've no use for the cleaning rods so not sure if I would buy a case for it, but thanks for the info. I've still not figured out if it a "true" US MG cleaning rod or not, it doesn't have any stampings like all the others I've seen. More than likely it and the bolt pouch will go into the sell/trade box that I will someday get around to selling or trading LOL. More Parts Less Time.
