SMLE Cutaway Butt Stock
Is it normal to cutaway the butt stock on SMLE cutaways or has this example most likely been done by an over enthusiastic civilian? Thanks for any info.

The top end looks like it's the norm but the elongated section isn't as per the laid down/EMER skeleton spec. But the elongation does illustrate the fitting etc etc. Better if the elongation showed the start of the stock bolt. The oil bottle should go in first and the pullthrough last.

Yes I was looking at that and if the pull thru jammed there well you would want very long fingers to dig it out I wonder who put it in the wrong way around.

Not really simply because it wasn't as per the spec! But if one came through you'd probably wonder who did it and the reason why. The only places that had them were Cadet units, the Armourers training wing at Bordon and strangely, the Gunnery wing at Bovington. That's probably because they were an ideal item for teaching the basics of the actual mechanical functions of small arms. The FIRE. UNLOCK, EXTRACT, EJECT, COCK, FEED, LOAD, LOCK. And while all others do the same, the Enfield does them in that order. But I digress. These can be owned without licensing or further modification in the UK
due to their being '.....so structurally weakened as to be incapable of supporting....... blah blah...... contrary to what anyone tells you (see R.v Cox)

Here is mine which I picked up about 6 months ago. I realise that it's not in the best of condition and does need some restoration work together with some missing parts replacing. The reason that I purchased it is because SMLE cutaways don't seem to come up for sale that often, most are No4's. This one has been U.K. deactivated.
