Tavor owners here?
I thought I'd see if there were any Tavor owners here and what their experiences were with said Israeli service rifle copy... I'm sure there's more than one story about them here, I have a few, and perhaps some of you down south have the select fire models...
Anyway, let's see...where to start? Pics stolen from everywhere...just so you know what firearm I speak of.

Thanks for starting this one Jim.
As mentioned in a different thread my son has one. It is the X95 with a Trijicon MRO red dot and seems to be decent for accuracy.
The one thing I have found is it is hard on brass as they can get a pretty decent dent near the should on ejection. I think after a few hundred rounds fired there appears to be a little less denting, possibly the gun is wearing in and maybe this makes the difference.
Accuracy seems to be OK and think he is going to use it at the military shoot this weekend. Will see how it scores and get back. One thing is it functions perfectly and appears to be very well made.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

I have had the SAR version since it became available here. I think I might have mentioned it when there was some discussion on replacing the SA-80.
There’s a lot I like and some things I don’t like about the Tavor. At the top of my like list is its simplicity and durability.
The trigger was terrible when I got it. Changing a couple of springs made it better.
It’s 5.56… and I won’t go into that. The BLK, .300 Blackout, version wasn’t available at the time or I would have got it. The bullpup design doesn’t lend itself to longer barrel a full power rifle cartridge needs. So, there’s no point in me wanting a 7.62x51. The best I can hope for is 7.62x39 version.
It’s not a great gun to suppress. That’s because there are not a lot of parts available to deal with the issues you run into with a suppressor. When you finally get it running kinda well with a suppressor, you find out it there’s lot of mechanical noise.
For what it is, a home defense, urban combat or policing weapon its accuracy is ok. It’s better than an average AK. About the same as an AR. It’s not a sniper rifle.
The Tavor is the only bullpup I own. It was a big adjustment for me to get used to. Old dog learning new tricks. Unlearning old muscle memory and learning new. It was a significant learning experience for me. I am still not 100% comfortable with it. That’s me, not the gun. I will get better more practice. My magazine changes have come a long way. I would never go back to an AR-15.
The best way I can summarize the Tavor is to say it’s the Glock of bullpups.

I wasn't aware they did that.

Absolutely agree here...more to follow.
You probably trialled that very one. It does look like issue, the second looks like Civvie.
There are two men here that have one each side by side. Neither will group a pie plate at 100 with factory ammo. I took one rifle to test myself, like always, have another shoot it and see. This one I speak of also gave full broadside bullet profile at 100. It's a 7" twist. I thought I should start with slugging the bore and check the twist. You never know...I used a 27 cal ball and tapped it into the commencement, muzzle down, with a .22 rod. It started hard and then once moving went about 4" and went into free fall for about 4". It fetched up around the gas port and was a gentle push again. Then after a couple more inches it went back into free fall until about an inch from the muzzle. It required a gentle push to exit. All this was done after I scrubbed the bore with a new brush and clean cloth. It was spotless... I measured and I think it measured .224, it was a year ago... The rifling was pronounced. I suggest the bullet would start off fine and then lose it's tight barrel so it would come off axis and gain yaw. Once it does that it's going to yaw after exit...
As for handling, I found it clumsy, cumbersome and awkward. It's a*s end heavy and appears to have been designed by a junk collector. If given one, I'd sell it cheap and buy an old double hammer shotgun. That way you at least know what you have.
On the other hand, I could try Vincent or E303Ts Tavor and maybe will have a different experience. The owner loves it except it won't perform. By the way, I'm a dedicated Glock owner, a model 22...and a Beretta Storm in .40...so don't tell me it's just the Bullpup design.

Obviously a bad barrel. Maybe the chrome lining wasn’t kosha. SAR or X95 versions? If accuracy was that much of an issue with the Tavor, I don’t think it would have been as widely adopted around the world. You are welcome to shoot my SAR any time. It’s an early serial number and well used.
BTW. My SAR only likes 77gr.
That was one of my first impressions too. Nearly all the weight is at the back. It seems odd until you try it in its intended role, only then did the light come on for me. The majority of the weight is close to your upper body and supported, making the front very light and maneuverable. Once I got used to it, it’s one of the features I like best. Remember, it’s a home defense or urban combat weapon. I think of it more like an SMG than a real rifle.
Spare parts availability is a big issue here. The Tavor is doomed here if they don’t fix that.

That's where we are too. The suppliers aren't interested nor is the originator. He's hooped.

I'd have to show up with a truck full of various calibers, I'm sure we could empty them all...

That's where I am with my Beretta Storm, a PDW or headquarters gun...to be honest, I'd try the shorty BBL for sure...and see. The select version too...

Also, they're over $3000 CDN around here...seriously...

Very interesting posts and will get a pix up soon.
My son loves his and we are shooting 55gr Hornady FMJ, maybe it is my advanced reloading formula that makes his decent for accuracy...
It isn't as accurate as his SP1 IMO but he is satisfied with the results so far.
I will try to load some heavier bullets to see how it does one of these days. Think I have some 62 gr. but nothing heavier IIRC.
Jim, there is a military shoot (fun) in Vernon this Sunday, come up and I am sure he would let you use the Tavor.
