1903 checkering
Found this in a small auction, listed as a sporterized springfield .Nice untapped receiver.
To the best of my knowledge checkering was not a factory option.?
It looks like a home grown job on the stock checkering and a bubba on the recoil pad. What is the correct length on a sporter stock? Hope it is not cut.
Does the bolt serial location and style look Bubba too?
Had to go for it. It just yelled buy me , Now the only question is where to hide it to avoid a discussion.
any thoughts on the checkering, bolt serial, would be helpful in finalizing my description for the item ?

Actually, the receiver has been tapped to add the Lyman rear sight.

You should check your serial number with the Springfield Research records as you might have some history

I have this in my SRS records. Mine is quite old, though, and I'm not sure what the "SPT" here means:

SPT means Sporter - it is a NRA sporter. The rifle is all correct from back then, aside of the buttplate and the checkering. Bolt serial number is correct.

I believe you have a Springfield Armory DCM Sporter. I am not an expert but it looks real. I do not know about the checking and recoil pad. I would check with someone that is more knowledgeable than me. A quick search of the internet indicates that 5,538 of these rifles were built between 1924-1938. The barrel should be star-guaged (little star stamped on muzzle). The rifle was built in 1928. On the front of the trigger guard there should be a US Ordnance flaming bomb ordnance mark with N.R.A. I hope this is helpful.

NRA Sporters did not have the NRA and Flaming Bomb stamp......only the NRA Sales rifles ( and not all of them )
