I've said it on this forum and l'll say it again: I absolutely love rack numbers. And this one is huge. I think it's awesome! Is this in 7mm or 308? I don't typically go for foreign guns these days but I'm a sucker for dogs like this

Supposed to be 7mm though I haven't verified yet

How much of a gamble was it? It does not look bad compared to the bottom of the barrel rifles I've seen locally recently. If the bore is still good I wouldn't complain too much. I got in on these when they were decent and cheap. $100 for a nice one with a good bore (7mm), crest and cleaning rod. I actually didn't even have to do anything to it. Stock already had a nice shine to it.

. Not a massive loss and I was looking for a bit of a project so it balances out. Just need to find time to work on it, working over 60 hours a week leaves little time to play with stuff like this.

If all the metal cleans up and it shoots safely it would be a real hoot to show up at the range next to some young dudes with modern plastikool toys. I will bet this old beater will do 4" groups at 100 yards! Show that to the boys with the toys next to you!
And if the thing is totally a lost investment, you can always keep it around to stir the camp fire embers. But be sure to take pictures doing it. That will REALLY mess with some people.

I did clean it up, and it appears better than I thought. Might actually make a good shooter

I like it. If I had seen it on a table at a fun show, it'd be hitching a ride home with me.

I'm with the others, I would have bought them too, if you were not in the big C I'd ask if you wanted to sell them to me.

Right now it is going with my accidental Spanish Civil War side of the collection. I say accidental because I traded another rifle for a Vetterli M70/87/15 and when I received it, I noticed faintly on the sanded stock is a flaming bomb, MP8 stamp.
Maybe Sunday I might get out shooting and see how this Mauser does. I have 10rds of ammo left over from a FN-49 in 7mm I had, going to have to see how this works out.
