The white background IMHO looks like the pictures that AASSniper uses on his eBay sales. He offers them as reproductions on his website: Boite lunette fusil Enfield carr

I have no knowledge of the specifics of such cases.
But one can be reasonably sure that in a company name "XYZ & Co.", the "Co.", being the recognized legal abbreviation of "Company", would NEVER be further abbreviated to a simple "C".

IMHO its a reproduction and you should have been made aware thats what you were buying at the time of purchase..............otherwise send it back

I did wonder if it was meant to stand for Broadhurst & Clarkson, who were optical manufacturers.

I agree with the general drift of the responses. It's a copy. Apart from the deviations from the accepted norms in the markings the case just looks too new. It also has almost no wear marks at all from the thumb screws on the corresponding areas of the lid. There is also no evidence of there ever having been any paper labels relating to scope adjustment in the lid, nor any rifle & scope serials. One could argue that it is original but 'unissued', but that's pretty improbable for a square ended tin made at the height of WW2.
Just my two cents. And as they say, 'I could well be wrong!'
ATB.
P.S. Mick, so far as I know Broadhurst Clarkson were never involved in scope tin manufacture. B & Co would probably relate to Belling & Company. Berry Electrical (BE) also made tins.
P.P.S. It might just be an effect of the light but in the fourth photo that the OP has provided us with, it looks to me as though the surrounding metal around the 'B&C' is slightly depressed. If this really is the case it would suggest that the letters were stamped in, which would be unlikely - they'd be rolled into the lid.

Rather than add a PPPS I thought I'd start from scratch again! I just checked out the link to our French
dealer & if you do so, there they are, with exactly the same markings, openly offered for sale as reproductions.
I know the chap who runs AAS a little. He has contacts in Viet Nam, & gets a lot of his stuff copied out there. He once tried his best to get me to sell him an original SMLE wire breaker that I'd just acquired. No doubt if I'd weakened & let him have it the world would now be awash with them, like it is with the wire cutters. Having said that there's nothing wrong with making & selling copies - I do it with scope mounts - so long as you sell them for what they are.

Copies are fine but please folks, MARK them permanently as copies!
Unscrupulous resellers who will leave out the fact that something is a copy and might even artificially age items. “Barn find, slight surface rust” can translate as “Put newly made item in an old leaky barn last Fall to age it”.

Its a tidy metal box, no mistakin. Not sure whether the measurements would be accuarte enough to hold the sight though, which has always been the failing of the Taiwanese copies.
The bottom line is........as long as you know what it is you are buying!!

Thanks for the insight, guys. I knew it was too true to be a real deal. The price was almost the price of a reproduction and came from France
. It's not bad except the rear locking screw is a little angled off. I just wish it was stated as a reproduction.
