Mystery Pouch
I recently picked up this pouch which the vendor thought may be some sort of "unit-made" or bespoke pattern 58 water bottle pouch. Although I don't know what the intended purpose of this pouch is, I'm not totally convinced that it is for the British army water bottle and mug. However, it is sufficiently large enough to accommodate a water bottle, just. I did wonder if the pouch was actually intended to hold something else, such as an optical sight? There appears to be no markings on it that I can see.
Thank-you for any replies and information on this.

The bottle pouch looked different I think. Just a vague memory of things seen...that looks like an Omar the tent maker job...
Here's '58...second from right. I'm sure there's guys cringing just looking at this now.

Thanks Jim. It may not even be British, as there appear to be no markings, I can't be sure.

Thanks for all of the replies. The dimensions are approximately 7 1/2" or 190mm tall by approximately 4" or 100mm square, so it could, possibly, be a mag pouch.
Whoever made it, seems to have made a quality job of it.

I don't see any method of attaching it to a belt. Is that just the pictures?

I don't think velcro was deemed to be a suitable method of securing webbing.

My bet is a magazine case for a 5.56 Mag. Each mag is about 7.250" tall x .875~.900 thick x 2.6 wide but they curve with those dimensions the pouch would hold 4 mags with just the right wiggle room. Homemade or not...

There is a belt loop on the back of the pouch which you may have missed in the original post.
