Carbine slings again
I know their is a thread on WW-2 slings here, but it is very old 2011-2012.
I have two carbines, both sept. 1943, would some one tell me which color would be correct, khaki or OD ?
I have looked all over and all i can find or the repos, can someone tell me where I can buy two real WW-2 sling ? I like the look's of the khaki one's better, would ether color be correct ?
Any help on finding two, or even one real one would be a great help, Thank' Louis.

Could be either color depending on who made them. Be prepared to pay through the nose for a real one. They bring big bucks these days.

lboos,
I believe I recall Mr. Ricca saying by mid 43 the narrow slide or keeper was replaced by the two wider versions.. the stamped and circular steel slides or keepers.
As far as color.... I have no idea. It was my understanding that slings were handed out separately after one was issued or received a new carbine.
What if a carbine accepted by Ordnance in mid 43 wasn't put into service until early 44.... because it spent months stored away while being shipped over seas? Then a sling is issued ?
But there are others better schooled on sling dates and colors than me.
BTW,
I sent you both a PM and Email to help you locate a couple Used WWII USGI Slings.
May I ask (?) Are you the one that restores/repairs helmets ?
I believe I recall Harlan speaking of you to this matter.
HTH,
PS
If you are the helmet repair guy......... I hope this lead on slings buys me a few bonus points !!

For slings the first place I'd check is the CMP
- I read posts all the time about folks picking up slings at the southern store (have no info about the northern store. Reportedly each day they have a box full that you can pick through... Here's a link to their forums... CMP Forums
Once you're there you'll find a board for each store -north and south. There's a weekly report on the current inventory of the southern store - don't know about the northern store...

Thank you guy's for your help. Charles, Cant wait until mon.
I was looking at the sling on one of my carbine's, it look's to new to be a real one, would you guy's take a look at it and see what you think, is it fake, or a real WW-2 sling.
The snap has Providence RI stamped on it, the buckle has an "A" with a circle around it and USA
also.
The buckle seem's very shiny, not park. ?, the C end's seem shiny also but not as much as the buckle ? Thank's for looking. Louis

Morning Louis,
The sling pictured along with its hardware is a Reproduction.

Thank's Charlie, that's what I was thinking, with my limited knowledge.

I agree with Painter; not real. One of the biggest giveaways on repop slings is the edge. Most of the repops have what is referred to as a selvedge edge. That is the narrow band of a different weave on both edges. Original slings have a uniform weave all the way across the sling. There are some other details that I won't go into right now that are used for spotting other repros.
