Colt 1903 Factory Letter - Purchased by Company..shipped to another
Hi all,
I guess I could find a Colt forum to post this on but I don't really post anywhere else so I thought I'd ask here!
I just received a letter for my Colt 1903 (manufactured in 1941).
It was purchased by the Sweitzer Paint and Hardware Company in Zanesville, Ohio, but it shipped to Van Camp Hardware and Iron Company in Indianapolis, Indiana.
I thought this was kind of peculiar...what gives? Any insight?
Thanks!

Yes? So they were all purchased by one company and they were all shipped to another.
That's what I find peculiar.

If it was a single gun, i would suspect it might be a gift.
I would think that the 2 companies were related, (or possibly part of a buying group) and in order to get lower margins they made group orders - or just more orders than a single shop could on it's own.
Even today, the first question is "how many this order" followed by "how many this year"...

The one company was a "middle man" that was authorized to buy direct from Colt - had them shipped directly to the other company and made a bit on the deal? - Bob

I build the quotes for the manufacturing business I work at.
That is indeed an important question.
And when you put it that way, it makes all the sense in the world to me.
Thanks!

I’d bet I could track down some more info on the two and see how they connect. That’s worth a few minutes bellied up to Google.
Thanks!

I purchase the same way...as often as possible.
