Unidentified Bag, any clues?

Hello lads!
A few years back I picked up this bag at my local army Navy store and I've carried it on outings ever since, but I've always wondered when it was made and what it was for. The only modifications I've made are the Stars and stripes sewn on the front flap and the closures, which are still present, but came loose from the fabric, so I secured the holes with stitches. The bag has two sections, the front section having three pieces of webbing sewn into the inside, creating a separate space in the bottom. Any ideas of when this is from I would greatly appreciate. Thank you!

Since it has a NSN on it, do you have any connections serving in supply positions that can look up your catalogue to determine what the item is called?

Not a map case. US GI WWII and later map cases had a shoulder strap and pencil/pen loops. My initial impressions was that it looks like an equipment documents/maintenance manual bag. NSN look up confirmed that it is that. Most bags of this type have a very heavy tent canvas type waterproofing. Put a strap on yours and make it into a great field bag.

It LOOKS for all the world much like the pamphlet bag we used to issue with the M113 tracks. They were a thick cotton duct with a couple securing hooks on the back. Held the checklists and book on the vehicle...work tickets and such... This is thinner but very similar.

I looked up the NSN 7520-00-559-9618 and it listed Case, Maintenance, Operational OD Cotton.
I don't know for sure that is correct but with that number this is the result I found. The image included didn't look exactly the same but it also looked more modern. Hope this helps.
