I would expect he simply adapted a few things from before. He would have been fully familiar with the M1
after all...
Yes, '42 was the landing in Africa but his character was WW1...so he would have had early issue and I know old guys, don't relinquish gear until it's busted. I'd expect him to have OD3 gear and fixed bale helmet, he carried his "Leon" fighting knife from WW1 after all. Anyway, good clear shot and could be an actual field shot if we didn't know better.

Yea, he was 1942 issue USMC and they traditionally got old issue.
