Help with SMLE no1 Mk3

Hello all, my name is Stephen and I am new to the forum, nice to meet you all. I have a question, I have a sporterized SMLE 1915 no1 mk3 that I am restoring to military configuration, everything is fitting great, but I have one issue. When I install the trigger guard, I only have one stage as opposed to 2 like I should have/do have using the old forestock. Any advice on how to correct this problem? Everything is fitting relatively tightly. Can provide pics if necessary
