Old rifle sling part missing
G'day all
I recently found the old sling (or part of) for a few dollars in the back of a second-hand shop, not too worried about if it's authentic or not at that price, but would like to put it on one of my rifles, just not sure on exactly what the missing part should look like so i can get something as close to as i can.
Cheers,
Oysters.

looks like the end with the button is to fasten it to the rifle. The buckle might be wide enough to allow the button to go through, but the sling looks too short for that It might also be part of another loop that attaches to the buckle. The frayed end just looks like that, frayed without any further bits and pieces. Without hands on ...

I agree with Daan, the end goes through the buckle and then buttons on it's self...

What does that go too? Is that a US stamp on it?

Could be SA which would be Finland
. Might be a Soumi sling.

I have a Suomi sling that is grey leather similar to the black one. Never saw one in whatever that is, canvas I guess.

I've had a proper look today and yes, after removing the button it doubles back through the buckle and seems a good length to fit quite nicely on a Mauser i tested with it. The marking does look like its a faded 'SA' in a square with a "T" shape under, made of a greenish webbing from what i think is maybe cotton. It measures about 1200mm (around 47ish inches). Was originally going to put it on a Mauser but i've got a Finnish
M39 waiting on a PTA it probably wouldn't look too out of place on.
Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated with my limited knowledge at the moment!
