X Mark on Recever Ring

Looking for any Garand serial numbers that have an "X" stamped on the receiver ring they are very faint as it was done post production.

Thanks Singer B, that's my article. The X marked rifles were the last bunch of Garands ever made. Springfield had a bunch of National Match parts but no barrels. However they knew that 2000 or so were produced and they went on a search to find them. Lo and behold they turned up at one of the East Coast Depots in New York I think. Anyway they assigned block 6000001 to 6001999 and to prevent a duplication of serial numbers and the X prefix assigned. When the last X marked barrel was finished SN 60019?? was completed, Springfield went into M-14 production the next day. The "X rated" rifles are the rarest sub group of M1 Garands ever made. I found 6001268 on GI about a year ago. Browning's X suffix rifle is not part of the group and was possibly a duplicate serial number and it would be interesting to find out more about it. The X stamp I am looking for is on the receiver ring. I had shown this rifle to Scott Duff (2006) and he indicated that he had seen the mark before but had no idea what it represented. Have a theory but need more data points.
