Salt-- I don't see anything that jumps out at me makes that Type 99 worth that bidding price. If the dust cover matched and it had the brass muzzle protector (it had one at one time from the muzzle wear on the bluing), correct Type 30 bayonet and capture papers probably. Unfortunately in the US we have entered into a period that there lots of new folks who are novices and loads of money to spend. I do not see that going away anytime soon.

Wait until the first Nov. after the ammo/gun craziness subsides. Buying overpriced guns can perhaps be a lot like buying a new fancy riding lawn mower where I grew up. Everyone wants to one-up the next guy. Easy to spend in the summer time when money is rolling in, but gets sold in the fall in order buy Christmas presants.

Well yes it is pretty nice. I guess some people have the available funds and if they want it price is no object. The production run on the T99s was about 3.5 million. At gun shows and gun shops they are very common. I guess I should be happy I bought mine when I did. It just irks me that gun collecting in general will never be the same and my future aquisition of arms will be limited. Iknow, I know --supply and demand. Salt Flat

The most expensive one I saw at the Southern California gun shows before COVID shut them down was $1,000. It didn't have a mum and the bolt didn't match the receiver. The vendor was adamant that it was worth the price. I've seen it at 4 shows but with the current market, who knows, he may have finally sold it.

At the last couple of shows I have attended the prices on milsurps were up as much as "black guns" . Why someone would think a bolt action M-48 etc... would bring a panic price I cannot process. But if they actually sell I suppose my retirement strategy might pay off after all.

Just saw a thread on another forum where a person bought a 'All Matching K98k' that was a post-war Czech made rifle on some WWII parts complete with a fake waffenamt for 2800$. The market at the moment is full of people who don't know anything about what they are buying and haven't done their homework or asked the questions needed to not get ripped off.
