Pig hunt stories for you . I went to a friend's 3000 acre ranch that is on the edge of some canyons . I got 5 wild boars for a total of about 1000 lbs . 170 to 250 . I used a thermal scope and a 30 AR . The Thermal was great , just scan the canyons from the upper ledge until you see a glow through the scattered trees . Then watch the boar appear and shoot . The best one was a 150 yard shot at 2 am . The boar stuck just his head out and caught one in the temple .

My other friend's place is 186,000 acres . You can spend 2 days driving around hunting and only cover a part of it . I will hunt at friend's for a change from mine now and then . In Texas there are a lot of big ranches .

Now that I’m in the vaccine round, I’ll be able to come over sooner or later.
I’ll really check when we have the next exhibition in the US, but I think it’ll be in 2022.
US is not in my area, unfortunately. I only come when they need back-up.
But it happens.
The last one on the 3000 place was a shoot fest . It is a 4 day event with about 25 guys coming in from all over Texas . There is a range in one of the canyons with about 50 steel targets out to a mile . Everyone brings a bunch of rifles and handguns to shoot and share . The place is big enough that the target shooting does not hurt the hunting . Just a few of the guys and I hunt . There are 3 grilles and smokers and the cooking is constant . Lots of steaks and Texas BBQ .
Of course, Virginia refuses to post where they have ferrel pig problems. Maybe if I had friends ....I have family in western North Carolina. The last I checked (before the pandemic) there were still plenty of ferrel pigs in that area, and North Carolina had no restrictions, and not even an out of state hunting license required to take them on state lands. It's been on my list to head down there on a weekend with a full moon, dump a couple buckets of rotten mash from my garage brewery on the mountain side, set up a blind downwind and wait. Not as fun as roaming around a sprawling open Texas ranch in a chair welded to the top of offroad vehicle and blazing away with an AR like the YouTube videos show. but would hopefully fill my freezer and smoker for the year.
The thermal hunts were all stalk and shoot . A chair welded to the top sounds dangerous . On the big ranch we do use a jeep with a hole in the roof so the back seat guy can stand up an shoot with just his shoulders showing . You can stay in place that way . If you do drive up on a large herd an AR is useful [ even though they have no sporting use ] , with a couple of 30 round mags [ even though you only need one shot to hunt ] . It is not uncommon to drop 5 - 10 from a running herd .
