And to think, this gas mask probably only saw service this once! It probably ended up in a ditch or overboard.

Every time that I see someone wearing a WW2 era gas mask I think of the asbestos that was in the filter of many of them.

When the Virus "hit" I opted to use my "painting respirator" when I needed to wear a mask. I just ignored all the comments and negative views of others who thought that all they needed was a wafer thin paper mask to provide 100% protection against Covid.

We were issued surplus USN masks for use during riots. The training was interesting even using our FD's training tower for live gas training, if you had a good seal your reward was to take off the mask and get fully enveloped with the gas, I looked like a racoon afterwards!
When I retired I was told to keep it as they had new units to issue, I found it really helpful when I make stuffed Jalapeño poppers.
