Early Winchester P14

So I just picked up this Winchester P14 planning on using it for my No.3 MkI* (T) build and I’m trying to figure out more on it’s originality. Almost every part is Winchester marked aside from the stock, front sling loop, extractor and the magazine box. It looks to me to be an all original Winchester that just had the stock replaced and the extractor on the bolt but no other rework. The bolt is matching and the font matches the font on the receiver so I’m hoping that’s original as well.

I’m curious what the tiny “14” stamped on the top front of the receiver as well as the other cartouche on top is.

Any info anyone has would be appreciated.

My bad… that small “14” stamp is on the top of the barrel… not the receiver.

I would leave it as a nice example of a Mk1 P14 since it has the nice low 4 digit serial Number. For it to become a Mk1* / to MK3*T is a big leap, but it is yours to do with........

Nice Early rifle. The stock is off of a Remington built gun. The marking of the buttstock should be IW.

With a serial number that early, I suspect the rifle will be a Mk1, so the wrong rifle to build a No3 Mk1* replica.
As a Mk1, i'd leave it alone. They are less common than Mk1* rifles.

I agree....find a nice original Winchester stock and that's a gem.

Yes I agree, leave it as a MK1, which were only manufactured for a short time before the * mod that used a longer bolt lug and so the receiver face had a corresponding portion milled away. I have an ERA that is also only 4 digit and in MK 1 configuration.

If you were to "convert" it into a T and also MK3 you would be creating an injustice I feel.
But far worse has been done to these old war horses than that.
